DIA CEO To Give Evidence At Transport Committee On Driving Tests

DIA CEO, Carly Brookfield, will be attending a Transport Committee meeting on Wednesday 4th December 2024 at 09.15 am.

As DVSA continues to battle through a backlog of driving tests, a Transport Committee has been convened where MPs will question DVSA Chief Executive Loveday Ryder and Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood on cutting waiting times for driving tests and clamping down on re-sale touts.

The cross-party Committee will quiz Ryder and Greenwood on ways to solve the ongoing problems that are causing delays and exacerbating the test backlog, such as the persistent problem of touts using bots to buy up test slots and re-sell them at a profit.

MPs will also question representatives of the AA, Driving Instructors Association, and Public and Commercial Services (PCS) trade union, on issues such as the retention and recruitment of driving test examiners. DIA CEO Carly Brookfield will therefore be giving evidence. There may also be questions about the possible knock-on effects of these delays, such as more tests failing and increased demand for driving lessons while people wait for their tests.

  1. The problem can be solved overnight and they must know this. If you are willing to buy a test at £250, you will get a test tomorrow. This means there is only an artificial problem. You can stop the touts by simply allowing only pupils to book one test at a time. Stop the driving instructors and others from booking in advance for pupils. We will probably end up with slots not being taken up after a short while.
