Why Choose DIA for Your PI & PL Insurance?
Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance isn't simply about having a policy. It's about choosing cover that's designed specifically for the driver and rider training industry, provides meaningful protection and is backed by the UK's leading professional body for driver and rider trainers.
Higher Public Liability Protection
Many comparable membership organisations provide lower levels of Public Liability cover. DIA includes up to £20 million Public Liability, giving you greater protection from your first lesson through to specialist, fleet and commercial training.
No Separate Insurance to Buy
Some comparable membership organisations require members to purchase PI & PL insurance separately. With DIA, Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance is included with your membership, with no additional insurance products, hidden extras or unnecessary administration.
Designed for the Driver & Rider Training Industry
Our insurance has been arranged specifically for the driver and rider training profession, supporting PDIs, ADIs, rider trainers, instructor trainers, fleet trainers, specialist trainers, driving schools and training organisations, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Cover That Reflects the Training You Deliver
Modern driver training isn't the same for everyone. Standard, Plus and Group memberships are designed to reflect the different levels of risk across the profession, helping ensure your insurance is appropriate for the work you actually do.
Backed by Experts, Not Just an Insurer
If you need advice, guidance or need to report an incident, you're supported by a dedicated Helpdesk and experienced professionals who understand the driver and rider training industry. You're not simply left to deal directly with an insurance company.
More Than an Insurance Policy
Your PI & PL insurance is backed by the UK's leading professional body for driver and rider trainers, giving you access to expert advice, representation, professional development, training, webinars, business support, industry updates and exclusive member benefits throughout your career.
Higher protection. No separate insurance to buy. Built specifically for the profession.
Motor Insurance Does Not Cover Everything
Your motor policy may provide a level of protection for accidents and injuries that occur as a consequence of an accident involving the vehicle.
However, professional trainers also face risks away from the vehicle, including classroom training, online training, advice, assessments, off-road activity, private land, third-party premises and client sites.
PI and PL insurance helps protect you when a claim falls outside normal motor insurance arrangements.
What Is Public Liability Insurance?
If a member of the public, pupil, client or other third party is injured, or suffers damage to their property arising from your business activities, you could be held responsible.
DIA’s Public Liability insurance is included in DIA membership and is designed to provide protection from claims made by third parties who may have suffered personal injury or damage to their property during training activity.
DIA membership includes up to £20 million Public Liability cover.
Public Liability Claims Can Arise During Everyday Training
Public Liability claims are not limited to road traffic accidents. They can arise during everyday driver and rider training, particularly when working away from the vehicle, on private land, in classrooms or at third-party premises.
- You inadvertently trip a pupil whilst opening the vehicle door.
- A pupil slips on a spilt drink during classroom or theory training.
- A pupil falls over cones you have positioned for a manoeuvring exercise.
- You accidentally damage property whilst waiting at a pupil's home.
- You damage equipment or property at a fleet operator or training venue.
- An injury or property damage occurs whilst providing advice or instruction away from the vehicle.
Why £20 Million Public Liability Cover Matters
Every lesson carries responsibility. Whether you're teaching a learner driver, rider, instructor trainee, fleet driver or delivering specialist training, an unexpected incident could result in a claim for injury or damage to property.
Whilst serious claims are uncommon, they can be expensive. Higher levels of Public Liability cover provide greater financial protection against legal costs, compensation and damages, giving you confidence that your business is better protected if the unexpected happens.
As your business grows, higher levels of cover can also help you meet the insurance requirements of fleet operators, local authorities, government organisations and larger commercial clients, many of whom specify minimum levels of Public Liability insurance before awarding work.
DIA includes up to £20 million Public Liability cover as part of membership, helping protect your business today while supporting the opportunities of tomorrow.
What Is Professional Indemnity Insurance?
Professional Indemnity insurance helps protect professionals against claims of negligence, errors or omissions in their work.
For driver and rider trainers, this can relate to professional advice, instruction, assessments, documentation, training delivery or other professional services.
DIA membership includes up to £5 million Professional Indemnity cover.
What Can Professional Indemnity Help Protect You Against?
