Representatives from DVSA and the three main national associations met this week for a wide-ranging discussion on DVSA delivery and performance, planned policy and process changes, and how the industry and DVSA can work more closely together.

A full report will be published shortly, but below is a summary of the meeting’s core agenda:

  • A frank look at the pressures currently facing the ADI service, including the delivery of Part 2 and Part 3 tests and Standards Checks. Updates were provided on several operational areas, including ADI examiner recruitment.
  • Standards Checks. An update was provided on efforts to increase delivery, alongside discussion of the types of performance issues being identified during assessments and how these could potentially be addressed through training and development.
  • Part 2 and Part 3 waiting times. The meeting considered current waiting times and the work under way to reduce them. This included a discussion about how national associations and ADI training bodies could help candidates prepare more effectively and improve performance and attainment levels.
  • PDI applications. Updates were provided on the number of trainee applications being received and how the industry and DVSA could collectively improve the onboarding and development of trainees.
  • ORDIT workshop outcomes, including a summary of the conclusions reached at the recent workshop and the next steps arising from it.
  • Investigations and test fraud. Updates were provided on ongoing investigative work and the action being taken against test fraud, which remains a priority in protecting the integrity of the qualification process and the reputation of the profession.
  • Ways of working together, focusing on how the agency engages with stakeholders. The national associations shared feedback on what the industry expects from DVSA leadership in terms of communication and engagement beyond existing meetings and channels.
  • NASP outlined its current priorities, projects and communications activity that DVSA should be aware of.
  • A new Code of Practice has been developed in partnership with industry stakeholders. The meeting discussed the timeline for its further development, launch and communication to the profession.
  • Priorities were agreed for discussion at the next Car Driver Training and Testing Forum in October. These include Category B test recovery and delivery, examiner recruitment and retention, and the development of the new booking platform.
