A Professional Development Aid for Driver and Rider Trainers by Steve Garrod & John Wells

Published By Theory First: ISBN 9781902798783

When the new ADI standards check was introduced in 2014 there was a lot of concern in the instructor community. The main worry being how the new test would affect their teaching. Revised volumes were published without having experienced the new check test. We waited before creating the Target 51 Standards Check. This was to make sure that we made the most effective and beneficial training aid possible. Deciding against writing just another textbook, we instead created something that was backed by knowledge and experience. Keeping the on-the-go driving instructor in mind, the Target 51 Standards Check manual is broken down into sections. We’ve done our best to make the content as manageable and as easy to digest as possible. Taking breaks and revisiting sections of content has never been simpler. We cover:

THE BASICS: What’s in the ADI Standards Check; Achieving the Grade; Lesson Logistics; Preparation

INSIGHT: Lesson Planning; Risk Management; Teaching and Learning Strategies;

SUPPLEMENTARY: Form SC1; Use of Question and Answer Technique; Giving Directions & Instructions; Giving Feedback; Learning Domains and Learning Styles

Through examples and exercises, instructors are encouraged to review their teaching and learning styles. This helps to identify targets for further professional development. Written in an easy to read style, with humorous anecdotes and illustrations to help get the message across.
