VAUXHALL CORSA RECALL

Vauxhall is recalling a number of new model Corsa D cars because of a potential problem with the steering. Quality control has shown that the intermediate shaft of the steering might not be according to specification. If this were to break the vehicle would no longer be steerable.

The DSA has issued a Central Operations Branch Notice which says that tests using these cars should only be conducted if the vehicle is fitted with dual controls (to help the examiner control a car in the unlikely event of a failure) or if documentation is supplied to show that the remedial work has been carried out.

The complete Notice is reproduced below.

Vauxhall is recalling a number of Corsa D new model cars because of a potential issue with the intermediate shaft on the steering.

Consideration
Quality controls on the Corsa D new model have shown that the intermediate shaft of the steering might not be according to specification. Vauxhall are contacting their customers in a staged mailing campaign to advise them of the recall and asking that they take their vehicle to a Vauxhall dealer for the remedial work.

Action
If one of the vehicles affected is presented for test, the test should only be conducted if the vehicle is fitted with dual controls to help the examiner control the car in the unlikely event of a failure, or if documentation is supplied to show that the remedial work has been carried out. This will usually be in the form of the Vauxhall recall letter stamped by a Vauxhall dealer and containing written confirmation that the remedial work has been carried out. If neither of these scenarios is met, candidates should be advised to contact customer services to arrange for the test to be rebooked once the remedial work has been completed on the vehicle.

As there has been no prior warning of this action, if the test is not conducted, the test fee will be refunded or a free retest given only on the first occasion that a vehicle is presented for test. Customers should be advised to ring the national booking number on 0300 200 1122. No compensation will be paid.

Attached to this notice is an update of the posters enclosed with COB notice 01/08 to include details about this recall.  Please replace your existing internal posters with the ones attached.

If you are aware of any ADIs who use a Vauxhall Corsa D please would you try and contact them and make them aware of the line we are taking with these vehicles on test.

Queries
Any queries regarding this Notice should be made to Paul Baldock by e-mail or for more urgent queries on 0115 901 2555
