Professional Development Days - Bristol

As the home of Bristol City Football Club, the stadium is the leading sports and leisure venue in the south west of England. It is within easy reach of the motorway network and both Bristol and Cardiff International airports. Our Bristol event has a captivating mixture of guest speakers, workshops and business ideas to help you give your career a boost!

What’s happening?

Learners and the emergency services - where do we go next?
As drivers and riders, we can expect to encounter emergency vehicles at the most inconvenient time, but explaining just what to do to your trainees can be fraught with uncertainty. Sgt Gareth Morgan (South Wales Police Driver Training Unit) will provide a comprehensive guide to precisely what should be included in these training sessions.

Independent driving (and observer on test)
Independent driving is the second of two initiatives being introduced to the driving test in 2010. Pete Mowat, ACDE, DSA will provide the latest information on both independent driving and how the inclusion of the observer on test is being received by test candidates and ADIs.

Break-out sessions
Your opportunity to relax and enjoy a coffee and a chat with fellow delegates while visiting the exhibitors’ stands

Better business skills
Being a good ADI is just one element of running a successful business. Paul Capon, Regional Manager and business advisor with Lloyds TSB, will provide you with some simple steps you can take to build a successful business.

Open forum
Every guest speaker and workshop session will include time for questions, and the open forum is an opportunity for any other questions you want to air.

Presentation of CPD certificates
Presentation of certificates from Steve Garrod, DIA General Manager, with photo opportunity!

Workshops

Dealing with road anxiety disorder
Getting back behind the wheel or even back on to two wheels, following an incident, is not easy; in fact for some it is almost impossible. Julian Smith will provide an interactive workshop on the subject of dealing with road anxiety disorder and give some practical advice on how best such delicate issues should be addressed.

Alcohol awareness
Tony Baker specialises in running alcohol awareness courses throughout the UK. What is a unit of alcohol and how quickly does the body absorb alcohol? This workshop will give ADIs valuable information on getting this essential knowledge over to young drivers.

Occupational road risk
During this workshop we will look at identifying and maximising opportunities created by the increased awareness of work-related road safety. All delegates will be taken step-by-step through a comprehensive checklist to enable them to ask prospective clients the right questions.
